Polka dot fabrics come in many varieties but for some reasons I always thought of the pattern as being more appropriate for children. No rational explanation here. I decided this delve into sewing with polka dots and here we are - I created the dress you can see below.
This fabric is a fun one - the polka dots in white are about 1" in diameter and create a nice contrast to the dark navy blue background. The silhouette is boxy - I wanted for the fabric to stand out and to avoid altering the pattern visually (e.g., there are no gathers). I added sleeves, which make this dress so versatile! It is great for a cooler morning, appropriate for work, and very comfortable. The neckline is finished off with a bias tape - there is no bulk as it sits flat around my neck. Do you like polka dots? Do you own a garment with this pattern? Let me know! |
