I met Yasmin Radbod a few month back. Standing in the middle of a pop-up store on H Street in Washington DC, she was surrounded by the buzzing of the busy shop. We chatted for a bit and today I am part of the 2nd pop-up store she has organized. Yasmin is the owner of and creative mind behind Femme Fatale DC. In this week's blog, I would like to introduce you to this energetic and focused womyn*. Read on!

Why Did you start Femme fatale dc? what's the driving idea behind your company?

I started FFDC organically and never dreamed we would be where we are today. Last summer I was fed up with the local music industry - straight men who would harass me for sex in exchange for gigs and other absurd "offers." I wanted to do something that was for womyn and by womyn. Originally it was just one event called "Femme Fatale DC" last October. It was a fashion show of six local designers. Then ladies kept asking me "when's the next one?" so I kept doing them!

Why is it important to you to build a community of womyn who support each other?

All of this came from a need I experienced - I didn't have a community of womyn and I created the first event out of a desire to bring womyn together for a good time - no judgement, no fake hugs, no nonsense. Just a good time where we didn't have to compete with one another.

You talk about the idea of a sacred space. How do you build this idea into the femme fatale dc pop-up?

I choose meaningfully where I spend my time, where I live, who I associate with. Having a space that is totally wholesome and authentic is crucial to my personal well being. I didn't have a space like this growing up and I lived abroad traveling for a while, so having a place that I call home and where community gathers is very important to me.

As one of the womyn participating in the latest pop-up, I can attest to Yasmin's commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all to share their creative and business ideas. It's been a great experience learning from each other. Indeed, it's all about community, being authentic, and just having fun. Keep coming back to the blog as soon I will be introducing to more of the amazing womyn taking part in this adventure!
The Femme Fatale DC pop-up shop - located at 100 Florida Ave NE, Washington DC (right by NoMa-Gallaudet U metro station) - is open through December 24, 2017. Hop over Tuesday through Saturday 11am - 8pm. We have a 4pm - 8pm happy hour too!

See you soon!

*We spell womyn with a "y" because it is a small reminder that every womyn is completely whole on their own, and we decide our own path in life no matter what our male driven society has to say about it. No romantic relationship, man or whoever, is ever needed to feel infinite love and gratitude. All the love an individual needs exists within themselves.
