A recent visit to Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens in Washington, DC, left me inspired all over again. I loved exploring the special exhibition, but it was the gardens in full bloom that truly captured my attention. What a remarkable local treasure to have so close to home. Walking through the greenhouse, I admired the orchids, and one in particular became the inspiration for my newest painting, Healing Garden #113. I painted this piece on a round canvas, a format I have been especially enjoying lately for the way it echoes the organic shapes found in nature. In recent weeks, I have also been adding a painted color "frame" around the edge of my round canvases, giving each piece a more finished and intentional presence. For this painting, I made one more small discovery by adding a delicate white line between the artwork and the colored edge. It is a subtle detail, but it feels like the perfect finishing touch. I always enjoy how visits to beautiful places spark new ideas and influence the direction of my work. Hillwood reminded me once again that inspiration often begins with simply slowing down and noticing the beauty around us. Have you been to Hillwood?
