Tangier Island in Virginia may be one of the most memorable places I have ever visited. I spent two days on a sailboat in the local marina and got to stroll through the streets and visit the beach on an island where time seems to have stopped. Interestingly, one of the most intriguing spots on the island was the marina itself as it had all of these metal pilings covered in rust. And we all know, rust is beautiful. Not convenient but truly beautiful. I glued myself to one of these pilings and took photo after another capturing the stunning patterns and textures created over time. Don't all of the photos below look like outstanding pieces of abstract art?

A quick walk on a hot summer morning. Yet, this little one stopped me in my tracks. Such intricate beauty surrounded by prickers that protect its gentle bloom. I took a bunch of close-ups, from a variety of angles. One could almost forget about that walk ... 

This stunning cloud brought in a powerful thunder storm, one I will remember. Rain, rain, and more rain. But the lead up to all of this rain was just breath-taking. 

These four photos were taken over pretty long period of time. They are all a study in shapes and textures. Color, in this case, steps back as I converted all of the photos into a black-and-white format. Yet, aren't they just full of life? And they may not, at first sight, look like they go together. Two of them are an ode to nature: the outstanding bloom and the strikingly beautiful rain drops that look like they will burst any moment. And then, two of them are an ode to the creations of humans: the stacked metal chairs and the lone fisherman in his small boat making his way through pilings at a local marina.
